Taking Care of Your Flat Iron
If you own a flat iron, you know what an amazing piece of equipment this can be. But many people don’t provide this product with the care and attention that it needs. You need to remember that this product, much like any of the others you have, needs to be taken care of, cleaned, and properly maintained in order to keep working for a long time. You should make sure that you are turning off the flat iron, putting it away, and not allowing it to drop, on top of giving it a good cleaning often in order to get the product to last for a long time. Here are some steps to take to ensure your flat iron is clean and well taken care of so it can last for a very long time.
Clean After All Uses
After each use or at least every other day, take the time to clean out the flat iron. It is easy for these to get dirty from just a few uses and if you are adding in some products and other hair care needs, these are going to get the stick and dirty in no time. Unless you take the time to clean off the flat iron after each use, this dirt and grime are just going to stay in the same place and cause some damage to your product.
So, once you are done using the flat iron, you will need to allow it some time to cool off and then start the cleaning. A damp cloth over the wand really quickly can make a big difference and will make the flat ironwork the way that you would like for a long time.
Clean the Crevices
Take the time to clean out all the crevices that are inside your flat iron, especially if you are using a lot of products at the same time as using the flat iron. Hair spray, gels, and other items can quickly get caught up in the crevices, and unless you take some special care in cleaning these out, you could be ruining the inside of your flat iron. This is going to take a bit more work compared to some of the other cleaning that you will do, but taking a few minutes to get it done will make a huge difference.
To clean out these crevices, get a Q-tip and have it wet. Some rubbing alcohol works nice for cleaning out some of these parts and it is tiny enough to get into all the little parts that you are dealing with. Take some extra care if you use these products to see a big difference.
Turn Off When Done
Make sure that you turn off the product when you are done or choose one that has an automatic turn off already in place. Leaving the heat on your flat iron for too long is going to cause a lot of damage. While the materials inside are able to handle high heats, they are not able to handle the heat for hours at a time. If you forget to turn off the product, you are probably going to find that the material runs out much faster than before and you are going to have to replace it more often than others.
Use a Holster
You should consider putting your flat iron onto a holster when you are done. Whether you choose a bag to place it in and leave it up and out of the way or you are more interested in getting one that keeps it out of the way on a counter, a holster can prolong the life of your flat iron. This keeps it protected from the elements and makes it less likely that you are not going to be knocking it over or causing any other issues.
One of the worst things you can do for your flat iron is to drop it. There are a lot of delicate parts inside the flat iron, and dropping it at any point, whether it is from a small drop or a large one, can cause a lot of damage to the whole product. You could ruin the heat sensors, the material in the wand, and so much more. Make sure to use caution when using this product and keep it somewhere safe where it isn’t likely to drop.
Your flat iron can be one of your best tools in the morning. There are so many things you are able to do with the right flat iron, whether you would like to straighten out your hair, get it to look smooth and shiny, or even to add some nice curls into your hair. Make sure to give it the proper care and you will be able to get it to last for a whole lot longer.
